The Justice Society of America forms, consisting of The Atom (Al Pratt), The Sandman (Wesley Dodds), The Flash (Jay Garrick), Hawkman (Carter Hall), Doctor Fate (Kent Nelson), The Green Lantern (Abin-Ska'ah), Wildcat (Ted Grant), The Hourman (Rex Tyler).
The planet Krypton explodes. In it's final moments, General Zod leads a rebellion against the Kryptonian High Council that had ignored his warnings of their coming doom. Jor-El, a scientist and former friend of Zod, sends his son, Kal-El, off to Planet Earth. He is taken in by farmers Jonathon and Martha Kent.

Thomas Wayne announces plans to run for mayor. When prominent Gotham City reporter Edward Elliot discovers Martha's past with Arkham Asylum, he plans to publish them, refusing Thomas' bribe out of it. When this fails, Thomas turns to crime lord, Carmine Falcone. Though Thomas urges Falcone's men not to kill the journalist, they do, nonetheless. The night following an argument between Falcone, Thomas takes his family to a showing of the play 'Flight of the Gray Ghost,' in which the noir detective, The Gray Ghost, investigates a large bat monster terrorizing his town. The play startles Thomas' son, Bruce, calling back to previous trauma involving bats. Bruce panics, asking his parents to leave. As the family leaves, they are spotted by one of Falcone's men, Joe Chill, and promptly executed, Joe Chill being frozen in his boots at the idea of killing a child. He would turn himself in shortly thereafter.
Amanda Waller puts together a team known as 'Task Force I' under the assistance of Ted Kord, an MIT student who had recently inherited Kord Industries, and, more notably, the Blue Beetle's Scarab. The team consists of Peacemaker, Nightshade, The Question, Thunderbolt, and the notable powerhouse of the group, Captain Atom. The team would be largely considered a success, only falling apart when a battle with the villain Eclipso would see Captain Atom stabbed in the heart, effectively setting off an Atom Bomb in the middle of Kansas. Amanda Waller would kidnap a young psychic named Manchester Black into brainwashing the entire world into thinking that this tragedy had never occured.
Clark Kent moves to Metropolis, and begins to defend the city under the alies of 'Superman.'
Bruce Wayne returns to Gotham City to fight crime as 'Batman.'
Eobard Thawne, posing as Jay Garrick, develops the Particle Accelerator. The Particle Accelerator goes 'wrong,' unleashing a wave of radiation throughout Central and Keystone City, affecting a nearby thunderstorm. When the lightning strikes Barry Allen, he is sent into a nine month coma, and is taken in by the Eobard (posing as Jay), for training/testing.
Diana Prince hears tales of a third age of heroes rising in Man's World, and is sent as an ambassador to investigate.
Hal Jordan is selected to be the Green Lantern by dying alien, Abin-Ska'ah.
The Justice League forms.
